Quick answer

Do You Need an Apostille for Australia?

Only if your Australian visa office, university or marriage authority asks for one. Australia has been a Hague Apostille Convention member since 16 March 1995, so when it is asked for, the Singapore documents apostille for Australia comes from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) instead of embassy legalisation. If your checklist doesn't mention an apostille or legalisation, ask the receiving authority before you pay — we help you read it.

SAL is the only competent authority that legalises Singapore documents for use overseas, and since 16 September 2021 it places an apostille certificate on every document it legalises. Public documents SAL can verify go straight to SAL; private documents and company documents need a Notary Public first.

Why Singapore Documents for Australia Cause Stress

"Does Australia even need an apostille?"

Some Australian receiving bodies may not ask for one. Check your checklist; if it asks for an apostille or legalisation, this is the Singapore step — and we tell you before you pay.

Getting it done in the wrong order

Private and company documents must be notarised before SAL can apostille them. We sequence notarisation and apostille correctly the first time.

Laminated originals

SAL cannot apostille a laminated document. We arrange a fresh extract from the issuing agency, or an apostille on an SAL-made copy if the Australian authority accepts copies.

Digital documents with a QR code that won't scan

The printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must work — see digital document apostille.

Handwritten names on older certificates

SAL has to verify handwritten names. We tell you whether a new extract from ICA is the faster route.

Apostille for Australia — FAQs

Do I need an apostille for Australia on my Singapore documents?

Some Australian receiving bodies may not ask for an apostille. Check your checklist; if it asks for an apostille or legalisation, the SAL apostille is the Singapore step — confirm with the receiving authority.

Is Australia part of the Hague Apostille Convention?

Yes. The Convention has been in force for Australia since 16 March 1995, so an SAL apostille replaces embassy legalisation. Confirm with the receiving authority in Australia before you apply.

Do I need the Australian High Commission in Singapore after the SAL apostille?

For a Hague member such as Australia, the SAL apostille takes the place of embassy legalisation. If your checklist mentions another step, send it to us and we check it with you before you pay.

How do I apostille my Singapore marriage certificate for an Australian partner visa?

If the visa checklist asks for it, a Singapore marriage certificate can go to SAL for an apostille. If it is laminated, you'll need a fresh extract or an SAL-made copy — we check this first.

Can I apostille my NUS or NTU degree for study in Australia?

Yes. Certificates from NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUSS, SUTD, the polytechnics, ITE and NIEC can go to SAL directly, with no notary needed. Private and international school certificates must be notarised first.

How much does an apostille for Australia cost in Singapore?

SAL charges SGD 10.70 per document, or SGD 87.20 for SAL authentication of a notarised document. Our service fee starts from SGD 35 per document (from SGD 199 when a notary step is needed), and we give you one all-in price before you pay.

Can SAL apostille an Australian document?

No. SAL only legalises Singapore documents, not foreign ones. Ask us about your document and we confirm the route with you.

Are you the Singapore Academy of Law?

No. We are an independent Singapore document service. SAL is the government-appointed authority; we prepare your documents and take them to SAL for you.
