Quick answer
Do Singapore Documents Need Indonesian Embassy Legalisation?
No. Since Indonesia joined the Hague Apostille Convention on 4 June 2022, a Singapore document apostille for Indonesia from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) carries the certification the Convention provides for, with no Indonesian embassy legalisation. SAL is the only authority that legalises Singapore documents for use overseas; confirm the receiving office's checklist before you start.
What changes from case to case is what happens before SAL. A Singapore marriage certificate or NUS degree can go straight to SAL when SAL can verify it. A company's board resolution, a power of attorney or an employer's letter needs a Notary Public first. The Indonesian office receiving the documents sets its own checklist — including whether it wants a translation — so we ask you to confirm that with them. Our SAL apostille service in Singapore covers every step.
Not sure what the Indonesian side is asking for? Send us their checklist — we confirm before you pay.
Why Documents for Indonesia Get Held Up
Company documents sent without notarisation
SAL only apostilles private and company documents after a Notary Public has notarised them. We add notarisation and apostille for board resolutions, POAs and company letters.
Signatory not available
A director or shareholder may need to sign before the notary. We plan the signing around their schedule, or arrange a mobile notary.
Laminated or digital certificates
SAL cannot apostille a laminated document, and digital certificates need an exact printout with a working QR code. We check both first.
Missing translation
If the Indonesian office wants the document in Indonesian, it has to be translated and certified in the right order. We handle it through translation and apostille.
