Quick answer

Do You Need the Korean Embassy in Singapore to Legalise Your Documents?

No. South Korea has been a Hague Apostille Convention member since 14 July 2007, so an apostille for South Korea from Singapore is issued by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) instead of Korean embassy legalisation. The SAL apostille is the final step — confirm with the receiving authority in Korea before you submit.

Degrees from NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUSS, SUTD, the polytechnics and ITE go straight to SAL for SGD 10.70. Company-issued documents — employment letters, declarations and resolutions — need a Notary Public first. See our SAL apostille service in Singapore for the full process.

Have a checklist from a Korean school, recruiter or bank? Send it to us — we match each item to the right route before you pay.

Why Documents for Korea Get Turned Away

Only a PDF of a company document

A Korean bank may want a physical apostilled document, and a PDF alone cannot be apostilled. The company issues a signed original, a Notary Public notarises it, and SAL authenticates it. See employment letter apostille.

Private or international school degrees

SAL cannot verify these directly — they need notarisation first. Local university degrees can go straight to SAL via degree certificate apostille.

Digital certificates with a faulty QR code

OpenCerts and other digital certificates must be printed exactly and the QR code must scan. We check this through our digital document apostille service.

Signature not witnessed

A company declaration for a Korean filing has to be signed in front of a Notary Public before SAL can authenticate it. We arrange the signing appointment.

Apostille for South Korea — FAQs

Does South Korea accept apostilles from Singapore?

South Korea is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, in force since 14 July 2007, so an SAL apostille replaces Korean embassy legalisation. Confirm with the receiving authority in Korea before you submit.

How much does an apostille for South Korea cost in Singapore?

SAL charges SGD 10.70 per Singapore government document it can verify. Notarised documents add a SGD 75 notarial certificate and SGD 87.20 SAL authentication; our fee starts from SGD 35 per document (from SGD 199 when a notary step is needed), quoted all-in.

How long does a Singapore degree apostille for Korea take?

The SAL counter works on a walk-in basis, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Our turnaround is 1–2 working days for degrees SAL can verify directly, including when a notary is needed first.

Do I need a notary for my Korean teaching visa documents?

Not for degrees from NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUSS, SUTD, the polytechnics or ITE — SAL verifies these directly. Private and international school certificates, and company-issued documents, need a Notary Public first.

My employer only gave me a PDF — can it be apostilled for a Korean bank?

A PDF alone cannot be apostilled. Ask the company for a signed original; a Notary Public notarises it and SAL authenticates it, giving you a physical apostilled document.

Do my documents need a Korean translation?

It depends on the receiving office. Confirm with them; if a translation is needed, we arrange it and have it notarised and apostilled.

Can someone collect the apostille for me?

Yes. SAL accepts a proxy without an authorisation letter, unless the document can only be verified through your own SingPass or email. We go on your behalf.

Are you the Singapore Academy of Law or the Korean embassy?

No. We are an independent Singapore document service that prepares documents and takes them to SAL for you.
