Quick answer
Do You Need a Death Certificate Apostille in Singapore?
A death certificate apostille in Singapore is issued by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), the only authority that legalises Singapore documents for use overseas. A Singapore death certificate is a public document, so SAL can apostille it directly — without a notary — as long as it can verify it, for example through a digital extract with a working QR code, a physical endorsement or confirmation from the issuing agency. The SAL fee is SGD 10.70 per document.
If the certificate is going to a country in the Hague Apostille Convention, the SAL apostille is the final Singapore step — confirm any further requirements with the receiving authority. If it is going to a country outside the Convention — such as the UAE, Qatar or Malaysia — it also needs embassy attestation in Singapore after SAL. See our full SAL apostille service in Singapore for how the process works.
Not sure what the overseas bank or office needs? Send us their email or checklist — we confirm the steps before you pay.
Why Death Certificates Get Turned Away at SAL
The certificate is laminated
SAL cannot put an apostille on a laminated document. We help you obtain a fresh extract from the issuing agency, or SAL can apostille an SAL-made copy for SGD 11.77 — but only if the overseas recipient accepts a copy. We ask the recipient question first.
The digital printout doesn't match
For a digital death certificate, the printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must scan. We print, test and check it before the trip.
Verification needs the owner's own login
If a document can only be verified through a specific person's SingPass or personal email, SAL needs that person at the counter. We tell you upfront, so nobody makes a wasted trip at a difficult time.
The overseas office wants more than the certificate
A bank or court abroad may also ask for a sworn statement from the next of kin or a signed authority for someone to act. Those are private documents — they need a Notary Public before SAL. We arrange both together.
