Quick answer

Do Singapore Documents for the Philippines Need Embassy Authentication?

No. A Singapore document apostille for the Philippines from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is the certification the Hague Apostille Convention provides for, so no Philippine Embassy authentication is needed for the Convention step. SAL is the only authority that legalises Singapore documents for overseas use; confirm the receiving office's checklist before you start.

You may see "Philippine Embassy Singapore authentication" mentioned as a route. Since 14 May 2019, for Singapore documents going to the Philippines, the apostille takes the place of embassy legalisation. The receiving office — a civil registry, school or agency — sets its own checklist, so we always ask you to confirm with them that an apostilled document is what they want. Our SAL apostille service in Singapore covers every step.

Not sure what the Philippine office is asking for? Send us their checklist — we confirm before you pay.

Why Documents for the Philippines Get Held Up

Laminated birth certificates

SAL cannot put an apostille on a laminated document. We help you get a fresh extract, or an apostille on an SAL-made copy if the receiving office accepts copies.

Handwritten names

Older birth certificates with handwritten names must be verifiable by SAL. We tell you whether a new extract is the faster route.

Private school or company documents

Records from private or international schools, or letters from an employer, need a Notary Public before SAL. We add notarisation and apostille when it's needed.

Digital certificates with a faulty QR code

The printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must scan — see digital document apostille. We print and test before we go.

Trying to apostille a Philippine document in Singapore

SAL only legalises Singapore documents. A document issued in the Philippines is handled in the Philippines.

Apostille for the Philippines — FAQs

Do I still need Philippine Embassy authentication in Singapore?

Not for the Convention step. The Philippines is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (in force since 14 May 2019), so an SAL apostille replaces the older embassy route. Confirm with the receiving office that it accepts the apostille.

How do I apostille a Singapore birth certificate for the Philippines?

Send us the original. We check whether SAL can verify your birth certificate directly; if it can, no notary is needed. A laminated certificate needs a new extract or an SAL-made copy.

Can my Singapore marriage certificate be apostilled for use in the Philippines?

Yes. ROM marriage certificates, paper or digital, go to SAL for an apostille. Digital certificates need an exact printout with a working QR code.

How much does an apostille for the Philippines cost in Singapore?

SAL charges SGD 10.70 per Singapore government document. Documents that need a notary add SGD 75 and SGD 87.20. Our fee starts from SGD 35 per document (from SGD 199 when a notary step is needed), quoted as one total.

How long does an apostille for the Philippines take in Singapore?

Our turnaround is 1–2 working days for documents SAL verifies directly. A notary step adds time, so we confirm the date before you pay.

Can SAL apostille my Philippine passport or PSA certificate?

No. SAL only legalises Singapore documents. A Philippine document is handled in the Philippines. For a certified copy of your passport for use abroad, see notarised passport copy.

Do my school records need a notary first?

MOE letterhead certificates and records from NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, SUSS, SUTD, polytechnics and ITE go straight to SAL. Private and international school records need notarisation first.

How can the Philippine office check my apostille?

Every SAL apostille can be verified on SAL's online register at legalisation.sal.sg.

Are you the Singapore Academy of Law?

No. We are an independent Singapore document service that prepares your documents and takes them to SAL for you.
