Quick answer
Chinese Embassy Legalisation in Singapore — Is It Still Needed?
Not for the apostille route. Since China joined the Hague Apostille Convention on 7 November 2023, a Singapore document apostille for China from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) replaces the old consular legalisation step at the embassy of China in Singapore. For a Singapore document going to China, the SAL apostille is the Singapore step — confirm any translation requirement with the receiving authority.
SAL is the only competent authority that legalises Singapore documents for overseas use. Government documents SAL can verify go straight to SAL; private and company documents need a Notary Public first.

Why Documents for China Get Delayed
Following the old embassy process
Paying for a consular step you don't need costs time. We tell you the current route before you book anything.
No Chinese version
SAL does not translate, and the receiving office in China may ask for a Chinese translation — confirm with the receiving authority. We arrange it and, where needed, have it notarised with the document — see Chinese translation and apostille.
Laminated certificates
SAL cannot apostille a laminated original. We help you get a fresh extract, or an apostille on an SAL-made copy if the Chinese office accepts copies.
Company papers without a notary
Board resolutions and POAs are private documents — SAL only apostilles them after notarisation. We arrange the Notary Public and SAL authentication together.
Digital extracts with a faulty QR code
The printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must scan. We test it first.
