Quick answer
China Apostille Status
China: member of the Hague Apostille Convention since 7 November 2023. A Singapore Academy of Law apostille is the final Singapore step — there is no Chinese embassy legalisation. Translation: a Chinese (Simplified) translation may be requested by the receiving office in China; confirm with that office before you start. Last checked: 29 September 2026 (HCCH status table).
Do Singapore Company Documents for China Still Need the Chinese Embassy?
No. China has been a Hague Apostille Convention member since 7 November 2023, so a Singapore company documents apostille for China from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) replaces Chinese embassy legalisation — for the ACRA bizfile, certificate of incorporation, board resolutions, powers of attorney and the constitution (M&A). Company-issued documents such as resolutions and powers of attorney are notarised by a Singapore Notary Public first, and if the receiving office asks for a Chinese (Simplified) translation, the order is translation, notarisation, then SAL.
Whether a particular document can go to SAL directly or needs a notary first depends on how SAL can verify it — we confirm the route for each document before you pay. For the bizfile itself, see ACRA bizfile apostille.
Why China Company Documents Get Delayed
Following the old embassy process
Since 7 November 2023 the Chinese embassy step is not part of the chain for Singapore documents. We take your documents to SAL and stop there, unless the receiving office tells you otherwise.
Translation added after the apostille
If the receiving office asks for a Chinese translation, it is done before notarisation, so the notary and SAL cover the translated bundle. We arrange Chinese translation and apostille in that order.
Company documents taken straight to SAL
Board resolutions, powers of attorney and other company-issued documents are private documents; SAL only apostilles them after notarisation. See notarisation and apostille.
The director or signatory isn't available
A resolution or power of attorney signed for China is signed in front of the notary. We plan the signing around your directors; a notary visit to your office is available on request.
Documents not in English
SAL accepts documents in English or bilingual with English. Chinese-only documents need a different route — ask us first.
