Certified True Copy Singapore (Notarised & Apostilled)

An overseas bank, university or embassy wants a certified copy — not your original passport or degree. A Notary Public sights your original, certifies the copy and issues a notarial certificate; for overseas use we then take it to the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL). Quick answer

What Is a Notarised Certified True Copy?

A certified true copy (CTC) in Singapore is a photocopy that a Notary Public has compared against the original and certified as a true and complete copy. The notary attaches a notarial certificate with their signature and notarial seal. A notary certifies copies for use overseas.

On its own, a notarised copy may not be enough abroad. If your recipient needs it legalised, the notarial certificate goes to SAL for authentication, and SAL attaches an apostille certificate. For a non-Hague country, the embassy attests it afterwards.

Singapore government document? SAL can also make its own photocopy of a Singapore government document it can verify and legalise it as a certified true copy — SGD 11.77. This is useful for laminated originals SAL cannot apostille directly.

Why Certified Copies Get Rejected Overseas

Certified by the wrong person

Some overseas recipients want a copy certified by a Notary Public, then apostilled — not a copy stamped by an office or signed by a friend. We confirm what your recipient asked for.

No apostille on the certificate

A notarised copy without SAL authentication may not be accepted if your recipient needs it legalised. We complete the SAL step for you.

Copy doesn't match the original

Missing pages, cropped edges or an expired passport can cause problems. The notary sights the original, so bring the actual document.

Name mismatch

If your name differs between passport and certificate, the recipient may query it. We flag this early; a statutory declaration can sometimes bridge the gap.

Certified True Copy Singapore — FAQs

Where can I get a certified true copy of my passport in Singapore?

A Notary Public can sight your passport and certify a copy for overseas use. If the recipient abroad needs it legalised, it is apostilled at SAL afterwards. See notarised passport copy.

Can SAL certify a copy of my document?

Yes, for Singapore government documents SAL can verify. SAL makes the photocopy itself and legalises it as a certified true copy for SGD 11.77. Private documents need a Notary Public instead; SAL does not legalise foreign documents.

Can a laminated birth certificate be certified?

SAL cannot apostille a laminated original. A notarised copy or an SAL-made copy may work if your recipient accepts copies; otherwise a fresh extract is needed.

Is a notarised copy the same as an apostilled copy?

No. Notarisation certifies the copy; the apostille is SAL's certificate that authenticates the notary for overseas use. If your recipient needs the copy legalised, you need both.

How much does a certified true copy cost in Singapore?

The statutory notarial certificate fee is SGD 75, and SAL authentication is SGD 87.20 if it's going overseas. Our service fee starts from SGD 199 per copy, notarised and apostilled; we quote one total upfront.

Do I need to be there in person?

You need to bring the original to the notary, or have the notary come to you. Once certified, we can take it to SAL without you.

Can a Commissioner for Oaths certify copies for overseas use?

A Commissioner for Oaths handles documents for use in Singapore. For overseas use, the copy should be certified by a Notary Public so SAL can authenticate it. See Commissioner for Oaths.
