Quick answer
Do Singapore Documents for India Need an Apostille or Embassy Attestation?
An apostille. A Singapore document apostille for India is issued by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), and because India is in the Hague Apostille Convention, a Singapore public document carrying it can be presented in India without Indian embassy attestation. SAL is the only competent authority that legalises Singapore documents for use overseas, and since 16 September 2021 every document it legalises carries an apostille.
That means no separate attestation at the embassy of India in Singapore for the apostille itself. What changes from document to document is the step before SAL: government-issued certificates SAL can verify go straight to SAL, while private documents — a power of attorney, a declaration, a certified true copy — need a Notary Public first.

Why Documents for India Get Stuck at the SAL Counter
Laminated birth or marriage certificates
SAL cannot apostille a laminated original. We help you get a fresh extract, or an apostille on an SAL-made copy if the Indian office accepts copies.
Digital certificates with a QR code that won't scan
The printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must work. We print, test and check before the SAL counter does.
A POA for property in India, signed at home
SAL can't apostille a private document on its own. It has to be signed in front of a Notary Public, then taken to SAL for authentication. We arrange both.
Handwritten names on an older birth certificate
SAL needs to verify them. We tell you upfront whether a new extract from ICA is the quicker route.
Documents that only open with your SingPass
If SAL can verify a document only through your own login, you need to be there in person. We tell you before you plan the day.
A delay can also happen before the document reaches India — in Singapore, before the apostille is issued.
