Quick answer
Do You Need a Birth Certificate Apostille in Singapore?
A Singapore birth certificate apostille is the certificate the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) attaches to an ICA-issued birth certificate so it can be used in a Hague Apostille Convention country such as India, China or the Philippines. SAL verifies an original Singapore birth certificate or extract directly, with no notary step, for SGD 10.70 per document. Confirm any further requirements with the receiving authority.
If the country is outside the Convention, such as the UAE or Malaysia, the document also needs embassy attestation in Singapore after SAL.
Tell us the country on WhatsApp — we'll confirm the exact steps before you pay.
Why Birth Certificates Get Turned Away at SAL
It's laminated
SAL cannot put an apostille on a laminated birth certificate. You have two options: get a fresh birth extract, or ask SAL to apostille an SAL-made copy (SGD 11.77) — but only if the recipient accepts copies. We help you decide which one your recipient will take.
The names are handwritten
Some older certificates have handwritten names, and SAL must be able to verify them. If it can't, check with ICA for a version with the names printed, or a digital extract.
The digital extract won't verify
A digital birth certificate must be printed exactly, and its QR code must scan and match the online version. We print and test it first — see our digital document apostille service.
The wrong document for the purpose
SAL doesn't advise which document a foreign authority needs. We read the recipient's checklist with you, so you apostille the right one once.
