Quick answer
How Company Documents Are Legalised in Singapore
Company document apostille in Singapore starts with a Notary Public: company documents are private documents, so the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) apostilles them only after notarisation. For a non-Hague country, the embassy then attests them. The chain is:
-
1
Notarisation
a director or authorised signatory signs before a Notary Public, who checks identity and proof of authority (for example a board resolution).
-
2
SAL authentication
SAL authenticates the notarised document and affixes an apostille certificate.
-
3
Embassy attestation
only if the country is not in the Hague Apostille Convention, such as the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait or Malaysia.
Commercial documents such as commercial invoices and certificates of origin follow a different route: they are first endorsed by a Chamber of Commerce (SCCI, SCCCI, SICCI, SICC, SMCCI or SMF), then go to SAL.
For the general process, see our SAL apostille service in Singapore. Not sure which route applies to your document set? Send us the list and the country — we confirm before you pay.
Why Corporate Document Legalisation Gets Delayed
The wrong person signs
The Notary Public needs to see that the signatory has authority to act for the company. We check the board resolution or other proof of authority before the appointment.
A document is sent straight to SAL
Private company documents need notarisation first. Going to the SAL counter without it wastes a trip.
Commercial papers skip the Chamber
Certificates of origin and invoices need Chamber of Commerce endorsement before SAL — we arrange it in the right order.
The country needs an embassy step
For non-Hague countries the apostille alone is not the end. We add embassy attestation in Singapore after SAL.
The receiver needs another language
If the overseas bank or registry needs Chinese, Arabic or another language, the translation has to fit into the chain. See translation and apostille.
