Quick answer
Do You Need an Apostille on Your School Certificate?
A school certificate apostille in Singapore is the certificate the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) attaches to your O-Level, A-Level or other school certificate so a university or visa office in a Hague Apostille Convention country — such as Saudi Arabia, the UK, Australia, India, China or South Korea — can accept it. SAL is the only authority that legalises Singapore documents for overseas use; confirm what the receiving authority asks for. This is part of our SAL apostille service in Singapore.
Which route your certificate takes depends on who issued it:
MOE letterhead
→ straight to SAL
Not on MOE letterhead
→ MOE physical endorsement on every page first, then SAL
Full-time madrasah
→ MUIS endorsement first, then SAL
International or private school
→ Notary Public first, then SAL authentication
Not sure which one you hold? Send us a photo and we'll confirm before you pay.
Why School Certificates Get Turned Away at SAL
No MOE endorsement
A certificate that isn't on MOE letterhead can't go to SAL on its own — every page needs MOE's physical endorsement first. We spot this from a photo so you don't queue for nothing.
International school diplomas treated like MOE certificates
Private and international school documents are not verified by SAL directly. They need notarisation by a Notary Public, then SAL authentication, before the apostille.
Madrasah certificates without MUIS endorsement
Full-time madrasah certificates need MUIS endorsement before SAL. We tell you this upfront.
Laminated certificates
SAL cannot apostille a laminated document. We tell you whether an SAL-made copy is an option your university accepts.
Not in English
SAL only handles documents in English or bilingual with English, and does not translate. We arrange a translation if needed.
