Quick answer
Do You Need an Apostille for the UK?
Only if your UK visa route, university, bank or company registry asks for one. The UK has been a Hague Apostille Convention member since 24 January 1965, so when it is asked for, the Singapore documents apostille for the UK comes from the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) instead of embassy legalisation. If your checklist doesn't mention an apostille or legalisation, confirm with the receiving authority — we confirm your steps before you pay.
SAL is the only competent authority that legalises Singapore documents for use overseas, and since 16 September 2021 it places an apostille certificate on every document it legalises. Public documents SAL can verify go straight to SAL; private documents and company documents need a Notary Public first.
Not sure what your UK checklist is asking for? Send it to us on WhatsApp and we'll go through it with you.
Why Singapore Documents for the UK Go Wrong
"Original, copy or apostille?"
UK checklists differ between visa, university, bank and company uses. Check yours; if it asks for an apostille or legalisation, this is the Singapore step — and if it asks for a copy, we arrange a certified true copy.
Company documents sent straight to SAL
ACRA extracts, board resolutions and other company papers need a Notary Public first. See company document apostille for how we handle them.
Laminated originals
SAL cannot apostille a laminated document. We arrange a fresh extract from the issuing agency, or an apostille on an SAL-made copy if the UK body accepts copies.
Digital documents with a QR code that won't scan
The printout must match the online version exactly and the QR code must work. We print, test and check before we go.
Signing a POA without a notary
A power of attorney for use in the UK has to be signed in front of the notary before SAL can authenticate it — see notarisation and apostille.
