Quick answer
Do You Need an Apostille or Embassy Attestation on Your Certificate of Clearance?
A police certificate apostille in Singapore is the certificate the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) attaches to your Singapore Police Force Certificate of Clearance (CoC) so an overseas employer or immigration office can accept it. SAL is the only authority that legalises Singapore documents for overseas use; for a non-Hague country, embassy attestation follows. It's part of our SAL apostille service in Singapore.
- Hague countries such as Saudi Arabia and South Korea → the SAL apostille replaces embassy legalisation
- Non-Hague countries such as the UAE, Qatar or Kuwait → SAL first, then embassy attestation in Singapore
Not sure which applies to your visa? Tell us the country on WhatsApp and we'll confirm before you pay.
Why Police Certificates Get Held Up
Not knowing whether SAL can verify it directly
Some documents go straight to SAL; others need a Notary Public first. We check whether SAL can verify your Certificate of Clearance directly and, if it can't, route it through notarisation and apostille — a Notary Public, then SAL authentication — so you don't make a wasted trip.
Apostille only, when the country needs the embassy too
The UAE is not in the Apostille Convention, so a CoC for a UAE work visa needs UAE embassy attestation after SAL. Stopping at the apostille means starting again.
Digital printouts that don't match
If your certificate is digital, the printout must match the online version exactly and any QR code must scan — see digital document apostille. We print and test it first.
Only you can verify it
If the document can only be checked through your own SingPass or email, SAL needs you in person. We tell you upfront.

Police Certificate Legalisation for Work Visas Abroad
UAE: SAL first, then embassy attestation — see UAE embassy attestation. If your UAE employer's checklist also asks for an attested degree, see degree attestation for the UAE.
Saudi Arabia: Hague member since 7 December 2022, so the SAL apostille replaces embassy legalisation — see apostille for Saudi Arabia.
South Korea: a Hague member, so the SAL apostille replaces embassy legalisation — see apostille for South Korea.
Qatar, Kuwait or Egypt: outside the Apostille Convention, so if your CoC is going there, embassy attestation follows SAL — see Qatar embassy attestation, Kuwait embassy attestation or Egypt embassy attestation.
Other Hague countries: if your visa is for Australia, the UK, the USA, Japan or China, see apostille for Australia, apostille for the UK, apostille for the USA, apostille for Japan or apostille for China.
