Quick answer
Does Singapore Issue a Single Status Certificate?
A single status certificate in Singapore is proof that you are free to marry, prepared so an overseas registry will accept it. The options we can arrange are a marriage record search from the Registry of Marriages (ROM) and a statutory declaration of single status sworn before a Notary Public, then apostilled by the Singapore Academy of Law. We confirm with you which one the country where you're marrying accepts:
- A marriage record search from the Registry of Marriages (ROM)
- A statutory declaration of single status, sworn before a Notary Public for overseas use
Your country of marriage may ask for both. If you were previously married, it may also ask for your divorce documents. The completed documents then go to the Singapore Academy of Law for an apostille — see our SAL apostille service in Singapore — or, for non-Hague countries, on to embassy attestation in Singapore.
Always confirm with the receiving country which form it accepts. Tell us the country and we'll check the route with you before you pay.
Why Single Status Documents Get Rejected Abroad
The wrong form of proof
Your country of marriage may want a sworn declaration, a record search, or both. We start from the checklist of your country of marriage, not from guesswork.
Sworn before the wrong officer
A statutory declaration for use in Singapore is made before a Commissioner for Oaths; for overseas use it is sworn before a Notary Public. Only the notarised version can go on to SAL for authentication and apostille.
Missing divorce papers
If you have been married before, your country of marriage may also ask for divorce documents. We add your apostilled final judgment — see divorce certificate apostille.
No apostille or attestation
A declaration without SAL's apostille (or, for non-Hague countries, the embassy step) may not be accepted abroad. We complete the full chain.
